Taqwaa
Taqwaa is defined as Allah-consciousness.
It serves as a spiritual light to distinguish right from wrong.
E.W. Lane described it as guarding oneself exceedingly from sin.
It includes being careful regarding all religious duties.
It is an internal state of mind rather than a physical attribute.
It requires total obedience to Allah.
It involves performing all obligatory deeds.
It necessitates avoiding all prohibited acts.
It also involves avoiding doubtful matters.
Shunning shirk is essential for true Taqwaa.
Taqwaa acts as a defense against evil.
Satan’s primary goal is to cloud human thoughts.
Satan has no power over those who possess true Taqwaa.
Satan’s main tactic is making evil appear attractive.
Ubayy ibn Ka'b explained Taqwaa by comparing it to walking through a thorn-filled path.
In this analogy, one must gather their clothes carefully to avoid the thorns.
The Qualities of a Believer (Soorat al-Mu'minoon)
Success belongs to believers who possess seven specific qualities.
They humble themselves in their prayers.
They maintain stillness and calm during worship.
They focus their hearts on Allah during prayer.
They actively avoid idle talk and senseless acts (laghw).
They are diligent in the payment of az-Zakaat.
Zakaat in this context includes the purification of wealth.
It also encompasses the purification of character.
They protect their chastity.
They restrict their sexual relations to their spouses.
They remain faithful to their trusts.
They are consistent in fulfilling their promises.
Betrayal of promises is identified as a sign of hypocrisy.
They are strictly regular in performing the five daily prayers.
They observe these prayers at their designated times.
Those who possess these seven traits inherit the highest Paradise, Al-Firdaws.
Modesty and Shame (Hayaa')
Hayaa' is a profound sense of shame or modesty.
It acts as an internal restraint against foul conduct.
It is considered a fundamental branch of faith.
It naturally leads an individual toward goodness.
It is one of the qualities that distinguishes humans from animals.
Modesty should be nurtured from early childhood.
It must be kept in conformity with the Qur'an and Sunnah.
Modern media can weaken a person's sense of modesty.
Immoral books and movies normalize evil behaviors.
Every person has an inherent right to dignity.
Sins should not be broadcasted or committed openly.
Guidance and Prayer
Salaatul-Istikhaarah is used to seek Allah's guidance.
It is intended for making important life decisions.
It is appropriate for matters such as marriage.
It is also used when planning significant journeys.
Consulting astrologers is forbidden in Islam.
Palmistry is classified as a practice of kufr.
Numerology and soothsaying are strictly prohibited.
Istikhaarah involves two units of voluntary prayer.
The prayer is followed by a specific prescribed Du'aa.
After the prayer, a person should follow their sincere inclination.
The Story of Prophet Daawood
Allah granted Daawood both kingship and prophethood.
He is credited with killing the giant Jaaloot.
He possessed a beautiful voice.
His voice was so melodic that nature joined him in praising Allah.
He was highly dedicated to fasting.
He was also deeply committed to regular prayer.
The Zaboor (Psalms) was revealed to him.
The Zaboor contains vital wisdom.
It also contains warnings for mankind.
Allah taught him how to soften iron.
He was the first person to manufacture chain mail armor.
The Life of Abu Bakr as-Siddeeq
He was the first adult male to embrace Islam.
He was renowned for his unshakeable faith.
The title as-Siddeeq means "the great confirmer of truth".
He earned this title through his absolute belief in the Prophet.
After the Prophet's death, he became the first Caliph.
He successfully managed the crisis of mass apostasy.
He fought against various false prophets.
He unified the Arabian Peninsula under one leadership.
He ordered the compilation of the Qur'an.
The first manuscript was created after the battle of Yamaamah.
He was known for his extreme humility.
He remained generous despite his high position.
He lived a life of great simplicity.
Soorat Al-Furqaan (The Criterion)
The title "The Criterion" refers to the Qur'an.
The Qur'an serves to distinguish truth from falsehood.
Servants of the Merciful walk with gentleness.
They avoid arrogance in their gait.
When addressed by the ignorant, they respond with "Peace".
They spend their nights engaged in prayer.
They avoid all forms of wasteful spending.
They also avoid stinginess.
They maintain a balance in their financial affairs.
They strictly shun the sin of shirk.
They avoid the grave sin of murder.
They avoid adultery.
Allah promises to convert the evil deeds of the truly repentant.
These deeds are replaced by good deeds for those who perform righteous works.
The Battle of the Trench
The battle was caused by continued hostility from the Quraysh.
Jewish tribes exiled from their homes instigated the conflict.
A confederacy of 10,000 soldiers was formed against the Muslims.
The Prophet accepted the strategy of digging a trench.
This was a defensive tactic unknown to Arab warfare at the time.
The Muslims endured extreme cold and hunger during the siege.
They faced betrayal from the Jewish tribe of Banu Quraydhah.
Nu'aym ibn Mas'ood was used to sow discord among the confederates.
Miraculous provision of food helped sustain the resolve of the soldiers.
